explore a variety of healthcare career fields through coursework, shadowing opportunities and projects.

This course will immerse students in the world of medicine and health care. Students will attend class at Cox Monett Hospital while expanding on the principles of human physiology through access to current medical professionals, up to date research, and hands-on experiences within the healthcare industry. They will develop fluency in basic medical language, work closely with professionals, all while exploring a healthcare fields through job shadowing, guest speakers, field trips and tours. 

Students will be exposed to hospital administration principles, as well as marketing, public relations, and other concepts applied to healthcare management. Students will apply knowledge to real-world problems facing medicine, health and wellness companies. The development of professional soft skills will be a focus throughout the year.

Starting January 2024, we're excited to begin a partnership with the Barry-Lawrence Ambulance District to offer EMT certification course within our afternoon class of GO CAPS. This is an amazing opportunity to receive rigorous training in anatomy, medical procedures, learn life-saving skills, gain clinical experience and jumpstart your healthcare career.

The Emergency Medical Technician course prepares the EMT student to provide pre-hospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles and responsibilities of EMTs, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma, special considerations for working in the pre-hospital setting, and providing patient transportation. Students will participate in clinical experience from “ambulance ride-alongs” as part of the course. Students who complete this program will be eligible to take the National Registry E.M.T. certification test.
